Women harvesting tea in a field

Our sustainability story starts from the grounds up

Lavazza Professional is as passionate about building community and creating a better world as it is about delivering the perfect drink for each moment of your workday.

We are committed to reducing environmental impact and building resilience in farming communities throughout the lifecycle of our drinks.

A Goal in Every Cup. Our Commitment to Sustainability.

With our parent company, we work toward “A Goal in Every Cup," prioritizing key sustainability goals that are particularly relevant to our business and include areas where we can make the greatest impact. At Lavazza Professional, we look beyond the economic bottom line. We are here for people, for the planet, and for the purpose of creating the best world we can through every cup. How? By prioritizing key sustainability goals during each step of the drink creation process—from origin to office, farm to cup.

and take care of our farming communities

Lavazza associates work yearly with one of our coffee or tea farming communities on a project to better their livelihoods and increase their capabilities.

FLAVIA works actively to reduce carbon that contributes to global warming and our impact on the planet

Despite common perception, single-serve packaging is not one of the biggest drivers of carbon footprint.

66% of the carbon footprint for coffee is related to coffee farming and coffee machine energy usage2.

Our Freshpack is designed for high coffee extraction, so you need less coffee to make the perfect cup. Less coffee means less processing, roasting, transporting, and packaging contributing to carbon footprint.

More efficient coffee usage also greatly reduces the water footprint used in processing and brewing3

Due to the design of FLAVIA brewers – which use less energy and require less coffee when you brew – FLAVIA uses less energy and has a lower carbon footprint per cup of coffee versus a leading bean-to-cup machine.4

So when you switch to brewing a cup of coffee from a FLAVIA machine, you are reducing your environmental impact throughout the coffee journey from origin to office.

A cup of coffee from a FLAVIA brewer saves as much as 5 GALLONS OF WATER.2

Single-serve packaging doesn’t have to be the enemy of sustainability

Lavazza Professional has a mission to fight waste, care for communities, and protect the planet. That’s why Freshpacks are 100% recyclable through TerraCycle®.

In 2019, Lavazza Professional celebrated 10 years of the Recycle Your Freshpacks Program, which has recycled over 156 million Freshpacks and turned the recycled materials into park benches, railroad ties, bike racks, and more. Sound like something you’re into? Visit recycleyourfreshpacks.com to see how it works and sign up to participate.

Lavazza Professional shares in the vision and commitment of our parent company and is as dedicated to creating a better world as we are about delivering the perfect drink for each moment of your workday.

In 2008, after seeing the needs of coffee-growing families from coffee and cocoa origin trips, a Lavazza Professional associate, Frank LaRusso, adopted an orphanage in Sonsonate, El Salvador called Hogar Inmaculado Corazón de María. Each year Frank has led Lavazza Professional associates in initiatives supporting the education and supply needs of 55+ orphans and 200+ students - our Coffee Kids.

Coffee Kids + Lavazza Professional: A Timeline

1) 2019 Lavazza Sustainability Progress report
2) Carbon Footprint across the Coffee Supply Chain: The Case of Costa Rican Coffee. Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology, 2013. For FLAVIA, packaging accounts for 6.8% of total carbon footprint.
3) Savings versus bean-to-cup. The Water Needed to Have the Dutch Drink Coffee, UNESCO-Institute for Water Education, August 2003. One cup of coffee needs about 140 liters of water (incl. rainwater, washing beans). This amount was used to assess the amount of water savings per cup of coffee because a typical cup of coffee brewed with FLAVIA Freshpack uses about 8g of coffee compared to about 13g typically recommended by leading bean-to-cup manufacturers.
4) FLAVIA C600 compared to the VKI Eccellenza Touch brewing 30 cups of coffee over a simulated 24-hour period of workplace consumption
